Søndergaard & Sønner optimizes warehouse picking and shipping

For Søndergaard & Sønner, shipping goods is a central part of daily operations. As a wholesaler, they ship bicycle equipment to dealers. When the Søndergaard & Sønner moved to Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, it also became an opportunity to rethink the process from warehouse picking to delivery.

In collaboration with XtensionIT, Søndergaard & Sønner has created a connected flow from picking and packing to label generation, shipping and parcel tracking - based on solutions from Shipmondo, Tasklet Factory and XtensionIT.

Søndergaard & Sønner is a Danish, family-owned wholesale company with roots dating back to 1913. For generations, the company has specialised in bicycles, bicycle parts and accessories, and today a wide range of products is delivered to dealers and customers in Denmark and abroad. With many daily shipments and orders from multiple sales channels, parcel shipping is not simply a practical conclusion to the sales process.

It is a central part of the service Søndergaard & Sønner provides. Therefore, it was important that the new workflow in Business Central was one connected process and not divided across several systems. The solution needed to support an efficient and coherent process all the way from warehouse picking to final delivery.

Jesper Vilhelmsen, IT Manager, Søndergaard & Sønner, explains:
"When we moved to Business Central, it was crucial for us to get a setup where picking, packing and shipping work efficiently together in daily operations. We needed a solution that supports our workflows – and fits naturally into the way we work. At the same time, it was important to gather the entire process in one place, where both scanning and weighing of parcels are a natural and integrated part of the flow, not least because of the increasing requirements from our carriers."

ERP migration created an opportunity to rethink the shipping process

In connection with the transition to Business Central, Søndergaard & Sønner began investigating what their future setup for the picking process and parcel shipping should look like.

The company needed a solution that could work closely with Business Central, handheld scanners and several carriers used in daily operations. At the same time, the solution needed to support the workflows that play a major role in everyday work: packing, label generation, international customs information, handling different recipient types and parcel tracking.

A search on Microsoft Business Central Marketplace highlighted Shipmondo Shipment Connector from XtensionIT. An online meeting with a demo and dialogue about needs made it clear that Shipment Connector could function as a central link between Business Central, Shipmondo and Tasklet Mobile WMS.

As a result, the ERP migration was not only a technical system change. It also became an opportunity to create a more connected flow for warehouse picking, packing and shipping.

When warehouse work starts on the scanner

As part of the new setup in Business Central, Søndergaard & Sønner also implemented Tasklet Mobile WMS in the warehouse. Tasklet Mobile WMS is a warehouse solution for handheld scanners that supports the daily warehouse processes with picking, packing and registration.

With Tasklet Mobile WMS Pack & Ship, Søndergaard & Sønner’s warehouse processes can be carried out directly from the handheld scanners. When the goods are picked and packed, the process is connected to Business Central, and Shipment Connector sends shipment data on to Shipmondo, which handles the booking with the relevant carriers.

This makes parcel shipping a natural part of warehouse work, where the process can be completed directly on the handheld terminal.

Shipping to both dealers and customers

Søndergaard & Sønner ships bicycle parts to both dealers and customers. This requires a flexible process where recipient, delivery address, carrier and label are handled correctly. With Shipment Connector, shipment information is transferred from Business Central to the carrier via Shipmondo, as an integrated part of the order flow. This makes it easier to handle different order and delivery types in one connected process.

The solution also supports dropshipping, where goods can be sent directly to end customers on behalf of Søndergaard & Sønner’s own customer. This makes it easier to handle different order and delivery types in one connected process.

Better visibility after the goods have left the warehouse

Better visibility after the goods have left the warehouse

When an order has been packed and shipped, it is still important to be able to track the shipment. Parcel tracking with the Track & Trace functionality makes it easier for Søndergaard & Sønner to track parcels after shipment from the warehouse. This strengthens internal follow-up and makes it easier for customer service to find relevant information when customers have questions about a delivery.

Jesper Vilhelmsen, IT Manager, Søndergaard & Sønner, adds:
"It gives us a more connected process when we can handle packing, shipping, and tracking in a flow that works together with Business Central. It makes everyday work more manageable for both the warehouse and administration."

A simpler everyday workflow with Business Central

For Søndergaard & Sønner, the task was not only about getting an integration for Business Central. It was about creating a setup that matched the company’s way of working – and that could connect warehouse picking, packing, shipping and tracking more closely in one workflow.

During the implementation, XtensionIT coordinated the collaboration between Søndergaard & Sønner, Shipmondo and Tasklet Factory around testing and go-live. This ensured a structured process with confidence, progress and clarity in all phases.

Today, Søndergaard & Sønner has a simpler and more connected workflow in Business Central. This provides better visibility in daily operations and a stronger foundation for handling future shipping needs.
